About

“Pause is a unique, special space where everyone is welcome. No matter what part of the yoga journey you are on, where you have come from or what you believe in, Pause is a place where everyone feels included and valued”.

Our Vision

Cathy’s vision to provide a secular yoga practice broadens the appeal beyond traditional yoga to a more modern, athletic and therapeutic style that focuses on the whole body and mind function.

Our Story

In 2013 Cathy Gamba and Brent Oliver were expecting their second baby girl. Cathy set about becoming self-employed with a job that ticked all the boxes; a focus on health, one that afforded her the freedom to care for her children and ignite her passions. Pause Yoga was founded out of a true desire to share the benefits of mindfulness & yoga in a stunning setting and give busy Wellingtonians a taste of serenity as soon as they would step into the studio.

Nestled in the bush in Days Bay, Eastbourne, the Pause Yoga journey and experience begins before you even arrive at the studio. Walking up through the bush path to get to the space, your breath is quite literally taken away. This is all part of the journey – an opportunity to detach from the world in which you have come, to fully arrive at Pause.

Yoga like no other

The architectural award winning studio designed by NZ architect Paul Rolfe is purpose built and a big point of difference for Pause. Paul’s vision for the space was to feel as if you were inside a tree looking out over the bush and the harbour of Wellington. The light wooden interior and the darkened stained wooden exterior reflect that of the surrounding Beech trees around the studio. As soon as you enter through the main door, you are immediately transported into a holiday oasis of relaxation. The interior has plywood walls and macrocarpa flooring, apart from the sliding glazed doors which open up into a dramatic landscape view of beech trees and sky, carefully framed by the architect.

What makes Pause unique is also the welcoming and laid back vibes at the studio, students usually stay a while before and after class to happily chat. The teaching at Pause is inclusive and secular with a focus on mindfulness and anatomy. The uncomplicated kiwi vibes, the fantastic location, the connection with nature, the Tuis & Kererus, the loud cicadas in summer, savasana on the deck looking up at the Beech tree branches and the blue skies, acoustic yin on Thursdays, are all part of the unique, friendly and blissful Pause experience.

It’s a place to truly be. It’s the ‘real McCoy’ where you have the space to connect mind, body and spirit.

Words don’t do it justice you have to experience PAUSE.

Cathy and her team are so very welcoming – whether a newbie or pro. The beautiful spirit they project and share during class is infectious. I definitely leave each class feeling revitalised and empowered but also with a real sense of calm.

I don’t think I have the words to describe how perfect Pause Yoga is a space to practise yoga and meditation. It is nestled in the hills surrounded by trees and singing birds. The whole front of the space is sweeping glass doors, that give you a view of the entire valley and the ocean.
